Many of you know I have been taking part in a Harry Potter CAL recently. I decided to make Lunas scarf out of some beautiful Alpaca wool that my mum got me for Christmas – I know, it’s been ages since Christmas, but I’ve been waiting to find the perfect project for it! And I finally did! I used Melissa Helton’s pattern for the scarf.
After I had made the scarf, and realised I still had 2 skeins of yarn left, I thought that some matching fingerless mittens would be quite “Luna-esque”, so I decided to give it a go and make my own! I have made a fair few pairs of fingerless mittens in the past so I had a general idea as to how to put them together I started up by the fingers so that I could finish up with the design of the scarf around my wrists! In the end I decided that I quite like them the other way round too! so I have in fact managed to accidentally make a pair of reversible fingerless mittens!
and here, my lovely people, is the pattern:
Round 1: Foundation hdc until it reaches around your knuckles comfortably – for me this is 32 stitches – slst to form a ring
Round 2: ch2, hdc around, join with a slst – make sure you keep to your original stitch count- Don’t include your chains as stitches!
Round 4 – 7: repeat round 2!
Row 8: ch 2, turn, hdc around DO NOT JOIN!! you are now at the point of making the thumb hole 🙂
Row 9 – 11: Repeat round 8
Round 12: ch 2, turn, hdc around join with a slst
Round 13: ch 2, hdc around, join with a slst
Now is the time to work the fancy lacey bit – I had to twaek and shrink the scarf design to make it fit the smaller gloves better
Round 14: ch 3 – this counts as a dc and ch 1- (skip 1 stitch, dc in the next, ch 1) around – join with a slst to the top of the ch 3
Round 15: ch 2 – this counts as a dc – dc in the same stitch, (ch 3, skip 2 dc’s then dc 3 in the next dc) repeat around until the last cluster then ch 3 and dc into the stitch with the starting stitches, slst to join
Round 16: ch 2 – this counts as a dc – dc in the same stitch, (ch 3, dc 3 in the middle dc of the cluster below) repeat around, until the last cluster then ch 3 and dc into the stitch with the starting stitches, slst to join
Round 17: repeat round 16
Round 18: ch 1, sc in every ch and dc around
Round 19: ch 1, (sc in next 4, picot) repeat around
